pwa whats going oooooooooon!!!????. Ok nice to hear that klit is on. But what about cabo. Of course it’s provisional but the calendar it doesent look well unfortunately:(actualy it looks like ##it. First wave event so late and only 3 wave tour stops. with freestyle could be better also.I hope It will change.
there are so many great places to windsurf in waves.. i mean, its called a WORLD TOUR!! Why dont they replace pozo and set a stop in Holland?!?! So u could do everything by car.
All the contestants sail great conditions all the year, and for competitions they have to sail crappy Northsea/Pozo onshore conditions.nice that theres klitmoeller though…
What a pity if there wouldnt be a WC on cabo verde. Really enjoyed the movies and daily reports.
Cabo Verde was just a one man show promoting Josh Angulo and his windsurf-station. Now that he’s retired he doesn’T give a **** about setting up another world cup on “his” island.
Stupid imperialist.
“Cabo Verde was just a one man show promoting Josh Angulo and his windsurf-station.”
of course it was good for his station having a wave world cup, but it was also the only wave-tour-stop out of europe… there are much better waves around the world than pozo/klitte/sylt! what about the US?? Brazil?
but it might be good for klaas voget with two of his homespots on tour plus pozo
Seriously, this obviously is a joke. If you see what the Waveclassic guys create in comparison to this crap….There will be at least 2-3 events cancelled. Interesting fact is that it seems that the Waveclassic guys have better or as good as media coverage with less budget. Stop the PWA its useless.
Interview with Josh Angulo a few weeks ago on Continentseven.
C7 question: Would you have stopped as well, if you wouldn´t have won the wave title?
Josh answer: Probably not. I probably would have done another year and organized CV event again, to give myself a chance at the title and it would’ve been another long, hard year. I’m so happy I won and I’m done.
it´s super hard to get events organised with pricemoney, I guess. Perhaps there is not so much request in terms of wavesailing competitions in the moment: but overall there are 9 tourstopps on the plan and that´s not nothing
to run an event in exotic places is great, but would be also great to give the competitors the chance to win some money
should be possible to find some sponsors to get 30000 € (like klitte) price money on hawaii i guess.
i remember josh stone in “the aloha man” spending 9 months on tour, sailing fantastic waves on Fiji and other great places. what happenend to all this events?
the sport needs more media/tv coverage, otherwise pwa is as good as dead. (for waves)
i mean, they discussed a (!) two-stop- worldtour !!?
should is not a solution and 30.000 € not enough, TV yes, heros
how important are pro events at all? isn´t the lifestyle and feeling itself about windsurfing much more important?
@chris;
I work in the Media and I would say that pro events are important for the sport.Otherwise the sport won`t be taken serious and getting coverage in the Media which is important from my point of view.
I remember that for example the Windsurf Trilogy had loads of coverage on Eurosport. That should be possible nowadays aswell especially if you consider that they show Curling and Snooker on Eurosport. But to make it attractive we need exotic locations like Cabe Verde or Hawaii…
@chris:
no, i dont care a shit (sorry) about “the lifestyle and the feeling and the spirit…” when it comes to a sport that still has great potential for development and that is so expensive that, for me, its hardly to effort.
Therefore we definetely need more publicity, otherwise less products will be sold, less people start the sport and will push the progress.
I mean, look at the “big brands”, for example
North: Alex and two other guys are running it. I heard that they are selling 600-700 Racesails every year all over the world. thats all.
I also wanted to underline with my post that it’s a pity there’s no PWA Cabo Verde as this event was very good publicity for the sport.
What about a PWA Wave Event in Maui?
Pwa asks for too much money, beside of having the price money you also have to pay all their travelling expances and it is to much, they should start working for the sport and not to travel all around and make money. they started a program at espn but then it stopped this sport needs the push…do to the US and do some events there! come on PWA wake up and start working in benefit of the sport. I think if and island as small as bonaire could have organised an event everybody can.
Probably they already know all of that we are talk about here.I hope that some one of those Pwa gentlemans and big names will see what we all think about this crapp situation in which Pwa is atctually now.I hope so.
just bad places for waveriding…
and freestyle as well… why don’t they do an event in really flat condition???
fuerte, austria are superchoppy and the other 2 are almost a wave comp
for the people who doesen’t know the sport this is not a good advertising for windsurfing… except pozo for jumping…
the world is plenty of wonderfoul spots…
many events take place at spots, where people sail in their holidays and that´s good for the sport. I think a top sailor can be good in not perfect conditions as well.
If all events would take place in super beautiful remote spots, the common sailor would not have the chance to test the spot as well
for instance, worldcup skiraces take place in spots where each of us can ski, sure on the other hand there are freeskievents happening in the wild nature
nowadays you also need a specific setup to run events to secure up to date reporting!
Out of my view it would be cool to have an event at Lake Garda or in San Francisco or in Holland or in France, where people can come and see the sport.
I am not sure, if super radical wave sailing is the key to motivate people to start this sport.
I can remember the King of the lake events, where hundreds of people were standing on the little shore, packed and celebrated their heroes, and if there could win a no name, he got a hero within 15 seconds….
wonderful is relative, and I don´t see the whole situation so bad, 9 tourstops are not nothing, a super big tour would need much higher pricemoney to make it affordable for everybody
i think its absolutely necessary to change the image of the sport.
everything people know is that there is some boring slalom, shown at the olympics and what the see is grandpa sailing on his old “windglider” on some lake (which is totally ok.:) )
But however, when i show some videos to my friends, they all say: “o wow, didnt expect it to be so radical. Hey, you guys can even jump!?”
Dont know why, but media doesnt get the sport at all: Moving totally free in the water with nearly no limits! ( a bit pathetic…)
totally agree chris, but the tourstops should offer some action, 9 stops for slalom guys cruisin 3 miles offshore isnt motivating anybody but grandpa.(“Lets put it to a test. I can still make it.”)
And they easiest way is to promote via TV/ Internet, and then u can have it in Fiji again
lets see what future brings. good to see there are some people that still love the sport.
I think that people on the beach is a nice extra for an Windsurfing event but it is only a small percentage of what you could reach with the Media! What are hundreads of viewers at a Lake Garda competition compared to 100.000 or more on Eurosport?? The ASP Worldtour takes place on remote Beaches all over the World like Tahiti, Fiji. Sure France or Trestles is a different story.
But the ASP is not sucessfull cos of a couple of thousands people at the beach in France. The ASP are smart marketeers that created a lifestyle and myth around surfing(Its not called Dreamtour for nothing) and they involve people all over the world in that(Webcast).
Anyway with a couple of Slalom events in Turkey or Korea you cannot create an image for a sport like Windsurfing. No spectacular Wave events= no future for the PWA. Simple as that!!!I am quite sure the PWA will go down in the next couple of years. Lets hope that events like the Wave classic tour will inspire a next generation of Windsurfers!
1. Youtube “live” webcast is a good start.
2. Eventually the PWA needs to bring back Formula Racing. I think is key.
2. Do one stop in Bonaire (the whole islands will back it up big time)-slalom, freestyle, Formula
3. Do one stop in San Francisco or the George-slalom, freestyle, Formula
4. Do one stop in Maui-slalom, wave, Formula
5. This one is tricky-but i believe that it will be important in the future to have some “cross-over” among the Olympics and the PWA. Meaning some pros being able to make it to the games. Perhaps when Formula eventually makes it, this might happen. People give way too much importance to waves only. Is the combination of waves and racing that gets people. When sailors start becoming, just like it used to be, more overall sailors, things will improve. Specialization kills the sport! When we see someone working on getting good on the waves and slalom or racing, thats when things will start improving. Until then there will exist a split in the sport and sailors minds.
Guys lets start thinking about solutions. I agree with the lack of sponsors..etc. Using sties like Youtube are perhaps a good way to start and have something to show potential sponsors. The money is out there, they just need to see some concrete examples of “how is this sport going to play out in the future?”. Sponsors still think the Olympics is “the place” to check where a sport is at.
pozo, klitmöller, sylt -> wave…?
what happened with cabo verde event ?
pwa whats going oooooooooon!!!????. Ok nice to hear that klit is on. But what about cabo. Of course it’s provisional but the calendar it doesent look well unfortunately:(actualy it looks like ##it. PWA SUCKS!!!! They suppose to name it pwa Euro tour.We can only be jelous compare to surf and kite tour.
Nice but what happened with cabo verde

+100 for Marie, this violent man just wanted to do business and have his ass licked by the windsurfing world

100% agree with Mirko
It’s a shame of Cabo Verde.
Just when I thought that windsurfing was getting more popular again.
Well, nevertheless, I sill adore windsurfing with or without the media attention.
Here are some of my thoughts:
1. Youtube “live” webcast is a good start.
2. Eventually the PWA needs to bring back Formula Racing. I think is key.
