Supreme Surf Big Days event postponed until spring 2010

on 16. December, 2009 – 21:25 / No Comment

Just now, after our interview one week ago with the Supreme Surf Big Days organizer Florian Gebbert, the Supreme Surf Big Days are postponed until spring 2010.

Although Florian Gebbert stated on our questions a few days ago: “Guys, who surf and windsurf here in the North of Germany and Danmark are used to cold conditions. They have the proper wetsuit equipment like really warm neos, gloves, hoodies etc.”, the recent outbreak of winter convinced the organizers to postpone the Standby-Wavecontest to the spring 2010. The freezing temperatures during the last days and the predicted permanent frost caused the decision. “Sure we are used to colder temperatures”, says Hans Jensen from the title sponsor Supremesurf Rostock, “but it is different to sail one hour or a whole day in a competition. Somewhen it is no fun anymore and the risk of injury increases as well. A few more degrees in spring will be nicer!”

The full interview with Florian Gebbert you can read here.

The new schedule is as follows: From the 15th of March 2010 the best waveriders from Germany will be again in waiting position for the first storm in spring.

Klaas Voget is not unhappy with the decision and reckons: “Sure, we were looking forward to this competition, because it is unique in Germany, but if it gets too cold, the action gets worse as well. And the Big Days niveau should stay at the usual high level”.

AND The registration is open again until February 2010. You can get the registration form at supremesurfbigdays@bsp-media.de
