Formula European Championships Sopot 2009
The 2009 Sopot Formula Windsurfing European Championships were held from the 3rd until the 8th of August 2009. Sopot is situated on the coast of the Baltic Sea, between Gdansk and Gdynia in the natural centre of the Tri-City’s Agglomeration and is already an established windsurfing area. During summertime the wind blows with 10knots and offers perfect conditions for the discipline Formula.
Marta Hlavaty from Poland won the women´s category and sent us a nice report.

Between 24th July and 08th August we had three hard competition if Formula Windsurfing which took place in Poland. Last one were Europeans Championships played at my home spot in Sopot from the 4th until the 9th of August. That was really exhausting to do those events one just after another, not even physically but more hard was to focus on racing for 12 days in row.
All this tour finished for me very succesfully. I won all of three events, at the end defending the European Champ title in Sopot!!! I’m extremely happy of that!
We had two days of racing there, luckyly full of runs, it turned off with 8 races.
As I know my home spot well, and we had north-east winds those days which I like a lot,
I knew the tactic tricks exactly. Maarja EST 84, Aga POL19 and Sarah ARM 1 where really fast, pushing hard, so I was thinking all the time how to use my knowlege about the place and it worked:)
I’m also very happy about my 10.0 TR5 that I could race on for some time and I felt super-fast on it.
For me this 2 weeks where just great! Apart from results, it was just huge experience to gain there, as conditions were different at each regatta.
I’m very happy, and I feel strong to play Formula races, just can’t wait for the World Championships in Santa Pola!
